In this version, Mom and Dad play the security team, and yes, we yell. That's the honest parent-and-kid version, not a picture of how security teams treat the people they work with. In real organizations, security is handed a flood of findings and a deadline, and nobody in the original piece is doing their job badly. The point is the same, though: scanning, pointing and leaving doesn't get the room clean.
Our house. Clothes and towels. Everywhere.Mom and Dad do a scan. Loud noises. Pointing at random stuff. Then… poof, we're gone. You put a towel away. Maybe two. Then back to your game. Then we scan again. And freak out. Again.
Three ways to do better than yelling and leaving
1. Get good at it yourselves. You check your own room first, and split it up: one takes towels, one takes clothes.2. Let us peek. You share how it's going, a bit at a time. We can see the progress without barging in and yelling.3. Do it together. We agree on the goal, and on what each of us cares about. You check in along the way, and we cheer you on.
Each one beats yelling and leaving. Number 3 is the hardest, and the best. That's Dad's job, but for computers in big companies.
Quick question: which one would work best in our house?

Tell me at dinner. I vote for number 3, but it takes the most practice. (Grown-ups find it hard too.)
